Background
Keith Abney II was born on January 11, 2005, and grew up in Waxahachie, Texas, where he attended Waxahachie High School and was a two-way standout who racked up over 1,000 all-purpose yards and 20 tackles across a 25-game varsity career, finishing his senior season with 19 catches for 396 yards and 6 touchdowns on offense and 2 interceptions on defense, earning First-Team All-District 11-6A as a junior. Before football, he was a national-level speed roller skater, winning four national championships and setting a national record in the 300 meters for 13-year-olds in 2017. A three-star recruit rated as a wide receiver by 247Sports and an athlete by On3, he originally committed to Utah State before flipping to Arizona State on National Signing Day after receiving a late offer. He appeared in 8 games as a true freshman in 2023 with limited defensive snaps but recorded his first career interception against Oregon. He stepped into the starting lineup for all 14 games in 2024, tying for the team lead with 3 interceptions and leading the squad with 9 pass breakups and 52 tackles during Arizona State's College Football Playoff run. His junior year in 2025 brought another strong campaign: 44 tackles, 2 interceptions, 12 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery while finishing the regular season as the FBS leader among cornerbacks in coverage snaps without allowing a touchdown across 458 snaps. He declared for the 2026 NFL Draft as a junior.
Physical Attributes

Abney may be small, but he makes up for it in other ways. He has impressive speed, especially at full stride. It is easy for him to keep up with any receiver. Struggles with size when defending it and when being blocked by it. Has a really hard time disengaging from blocks, but uses his speed to set him up closer to the ball carrier to tackle well. Not the most agile, usually adds one to two small extra steps to his movement changes.
Data and Tape Analysis

Keith Abney is a get in your face and never let up type of corner. That works often, and his coverage can be suffocating. Sometimes overly so, with a couple of pass interference penalties thrown because of Abney this past year.
I like his man coverage better than PFF did this past year in what I watched. He stays in phase the whole play. Even when the WR wriggles free, Abney has the speed to make the space quickly. Only seven receptions on 23 targets against him in man coverage this year, I think proves that. And even more impressively, letting you know how close he was on all of those receptions, he converted all seven of those receptions into tackles and forced an incompletion on 23% of those targets. That forced incompletion number is not elite, but very solid.
Abney is even better in zone coverage, and here I am more in line with PFF. I love his ability to drive down and make a play on the ball. He prevents much from happening when opponents target him in the zone. Opponents threw at him 47 times, and he allowed 23 completions. In that larger sample size, he only allowed 42 total yards after the catch, a ridiculously low total number, and it shows how close he gets to the play. And he does a great job of keeping the lid on, allowing a long reception of only 20 yards.
Grade and Outlook
Abney has the potential to be a high-end CB2 for a team and looks like he will come into the league as an already serviceable CB2. Without elite size or insane athleticism, Abney will have to continue to cut the excess fat out of his game to reach the top end of what he can do.
Grade: 5.5 (3rd Rounder)
