Kaytron Allen Prospect Profile
Background
Kaytron Allen grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, attended Norview High School, and rushed for 1,465 yards and 16 touchdowns as a freshman. He then transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, a national powerhouse that has become a pipeline to major programs. He committed to Penn State as a four-star recruit over Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida, among others, enrolled early in January 2022, and spent all four years sharing a backfield with fellow top recruit Nick Singleton. Despite never being the unquestioned feature back, he was consistent enough to become Penn State's all-time leading rusher, and in his senior season in 2025 took on the primary role, rushing for 1,303 yards and 15 touchdowns, earning First-Team All-Big Ten and Third-Team All-American honors before declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Physical Attributes
Allen did not test at the combine, and so we have to infer his profile based on tape. What he shows is very middling athleticism. Every physical trait he has can be described as average, bar two. One, he has above average physicality; he finds extra yards and keeps his legs churning in tight contests. Second, his agility is quite poor for a RB. His cuts work, but in the way where you are under a spell where you are destined to never quite match the speed of an opponent, no matter how slow you decide to go.
Data and Tape Analysis

Looking at this chart and my watching of Kaytron Allen, there is a divergence. PFF graded him way higher than I would have. And our jobs are different; they are grading effectiveness in CFB; I am projecting usefulness in the NFL, even so, it is rather perplexing.
When faced with a simple task, Allen executes it perfectly well. Run an inside zone and hit this hole, an outside zone and make one cut, all simple tasks look solid. The minute something outside the plan appears, Allen does not have the creativity to come up with answers.
This is because vision and processing are lackluster. He does not see a step ahead, or even what is happening right now, more often than not he is still a half a second behind on the play. His tendency to run into the back of his lineman shows just that.
He also cannot mitigate it with outsized physical skills either. I know I already went over them above, but his cuts take forever. In the NFL, the much faster and more cerebral players will be on him before he knows it. I could excuse the slow cut if he burst through the hole once he made it, but his burst is mediocre at best. He fights for extra yards, but he has to, because he is not giving himself any free ones.
Allen's pass blocking is quite solid, though. He scans pretty well and gets the defender away from the danger area. He is not a wall, but he works as a bouncer. If he had better hands and route running, I could see him becoming a reliable third-down back, but those just are not a part of his game.
Grade and Outlook
Allen is a completely fine player. He looks exactly like what NFL fans, coaches, and media say in that you can find RBs anywhere, because RBs like this can be found anywhere. He will provide value on a team's depth chart and might slot into a more power back, simple RB2 role for the right team.
Grade: 3.9 (Late 4th Rounder / Early 5th Rounder)
